Abstract
The present paper examines propaganda techniques, focusing on the recruitment of mercenaries by Turkey and Azerbaijan during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War against the Republic of Armenia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh. Specifically, the public messages of Syrian clerics, aiming to recruit fighters for a “common mission”, are analyzed using a proposed communication model derived from Communication Studies and ICC. The analysis places emphasis on the meta-communicative level, which includes elements of religion and shared values. The exploitation of these elements is identified as a common instrument of manipulation.
