Abstract

Elias Howe Jr. is considered as the inventor of the sewing machine. Four patents were issued before him, but none of the inventors was able to market their invention worldwide. The “Science and Technics” Collection of “Paul Păltănea” History Museum of Galați contains one piece of the first commercial sewing machine batch in the world (inventory number: 21799). This sewing machine was probably manufactured between 1879-1880.
