Abstract
The preventive archaeological research done at “Naşterea Maicii Domnului-Negustori” Church, Nicoreşti commune, Galati district, has revealed a necropolis, which was in use for a long period of time, between the XVIII-th and the XIX-th centuries. We suppose it was larger, its Western, Northern and Southern limits being affected by the communal streets and by the actual cemetery.
The inventory of the graves consisted, in most cases, of several coins, dating from the XVIII-th and XIX-th centuries. In two graves, eight fasteners and a globular button from the XIX-th century were also found.
Some ceramic fragments, dating from the Bronze Age, similar to those from “Sfântul Nicolae-Banu” Church, also appeared. This discovery confirms the fact that people have lived in the area even from the prehistoric times.
