MODERNITY AND ATEMPORALITY IN THE ART OF BRANCUSI. THE BIRDS AND THE FLIGHT
Danubius, XXXV, Galaţi, 2017, pp. 283-294.
Through his entire work, Brancusi apparently reveals an exotic, perhaps strange universe, but, in fact, it is a deep spiritual world, intelligible to various areas of culture. Our paper aims to present almost chronologically the works representing variants of the Bird because there were seven variants of the Maiastra and twenty-two Birds in space. The Birds, Cocks, Penguins and Turtles are, actually, essences of the animal world and metaphors of the human beings. The main idea is that of flying and ascension, a luminous ellipse of matter, the Cock becoming an arrow of light. The bird is nothing but the symbol of modern, innovative art that opens to good and beauty. It is not the form, but the essence of things that really matters. It is also worth noting the special attention to the material: what is thought of in wood or limestone requires changes in bronze or in marble.
