Danubius, XV, Galaţi, 1994, pp. 1-68.
MEDALII ŞI DECORAŢII ROMÂNEŞTI DIN COLECŢIILE MUZEULUI DE ISTORIE GALAŢI
Abstract
The paper represents only the beginning of a broader enterprise aiming at presenting the numismatic and medals collections owned by the History Museum of Galaţi. Besides the medals and the decorations described here, the collections also include many other items issued by various countries as well as a rich collection of ancient, medieval and modern coins.
Initially, the collection was constituted by two unified lots: the one donated by V.A. Urechia to the town of Galaţi and the one belonging to Paul and Ecaterina Paşa, the founders of the first School Museum of Galaţi. Subsequently, it has been constantly enriched through donations, acquisitions and archaeological researches.
The medals presented in this paper are only Romanian items, issued during the last two centuries, chronologically ordered and structured into two chapters. The first one, “Medals and Plaquettes” consists of commemorative, anniversary and honorific items. The second one, “Decorations” includes crosses and medals pertaining to the Romanian system of decorations.
