Danubius, XXI, Galaţi, 2003, pp. 185-192.
Abstract
As a result of some urbanization works in the old precincts of the town and in the area of Movilei Street, some archaeological traces dating from the XIX-th century, a period of territorial and economical extension of the town, were discovered.
In the area of the Gymnasium School “Ion Creangă”, where a market is being built, the foundation walls and cellars of a building dating from the end of the XIX-th century or the beginning of the XX-th century were disclosed.
The second point where archaeological supervision was required was on no. 90, Movilei Street. There, the excavation works revealed a necropolis from the middle of the XIX-th century, date established on the basis of the Ottoman coins from the inventories of the graves.
