Danubius, XI-XII, Galaţi, 1985, pp. 161-166.
Abstract
Employing a varied documentary material, the author of the study points out the fact that the Romanians’ fight for the Union of the Principalities (1859) grew stronger in time and manifested itself as a mass action, entirely getting the people’s adhesion and being an opportunity for the manifestation of the collective patriotism.
In this given context, the work stresses upon the contribution of the inhabitants of Galaţi, who had always been in the front ranks of the Unionist Movement, to upholding the national aspirations for unity of the Romanian people.
The double election of the former Chief Magistrate of the County of Galaţi as a Prince of the Romanian Principalities, was enthusiastically received by the people from this region, this expressing Romanians’ wish and resolution to get united into one state, Romania.
