Danubius, XLI, Galati, 2023, pp. 39-44.
Abstract
The collection of the History Museum “Teodor Cincu”, Tecuci hosts a reliquary cross discovered with the metal detector. This item is important because such pieces are rare in this area. This reliquary cross was discovered in 2020, in Buciumeni, near the forest entrance, on the right side. Reliquary crosses with embossed representations are commonly found on the territory of Dobrogea, where their circulation is well documented. They are found in levels from the 10th to 12th centuries, both on the territory of the Byzantine Empire and in the regions under its cultural influence. The study of these objects has led to the conclusion that they are mostly the product of local workshops. The item has analogies with those discovered in Dobrogea and can be dated to the end of the 11th century.
