Abstract
In the first part, the author tries to present an outline of the political and military hierarchy of the medieval society, highlighting the consequences of the confrontation between the Christian European countries and the Islamic Ottoman Empire, the place and the role of Romanians as defenders of the “Gate of Christianity from the Lower Danube” and, in the second part of the article, he makes a brief description of the categories of armature used during those times; the article constitutes a technical discussion of the mail shirts used by Romanian warriors (examples of which can be found in the cultural patrimony of the museum).

Résumé
Dans la première partie, l’auteur essaye de présenter une esquisse synthétique de l’échiquier politique et militaire ou la société médiévale évaluait, en soulignant les conséquences de la confrontation entre les Etats européens chrétiens et l’Empire Ottoman islamique, le lieu et le rôle des Roumains comme des défenseurs de la « Porte de Chrétienté au Bas Danube et dans la deuxième partie de l’article il fait une résumé des catégories d’armement défensif utilisé dans l’époque; dans le contexte il s’agit d’une discussion technique des cottes de mailles des soldats roumains (des exemplaires qui se trouvent dans le patrimoine culturel muséal).
